Exploring the Work of Indian Artist ANOKHI
and the Traditional Art of Block Printing
While Upper Elementary students were researching New Zealand for the Continent Study, they were also learning about an Indian artist,  ANOKHI.
Through her work, they explored the Indian art of block printing, a relief technique that uses carved material to transfer ink onto fabric or paper.

In this technique, the printing surface is cut away or carved so that the image appears on the block's raised surface. This surface is then colored with ink and pressed onto fabric, paper, or other surfaces, resulting in a mirror image of the carving.

Students designed various images and patterns,
which they stamped onto fabrics and other substrates.

Now, you can have one of their original designs on a t-shirt!
You choose the design and colors, and students will hand-print your shirt for you.
