“The children of today will make all the discoveries of tomorrow.”
- Dr. Maria Montessori
Dear Families and Friends of Welsh Hills School,
Being the Head of Welsh Hills School is a privilege and a joy; I love getting to know every one of our students, from toddlers to teens, and having the chance to see them grow and change over the years under the care and guidance of our educators. With a combined total of almost 200 years of experience at Welsh Hills School, our teachers and staff are a dedicated group that I am proud to lead.
Our purpose at Welsh Hills School is clear. For over 45 years, we have prepared our students to make tomorrow’s discoveries by nurturing the whole child, focusing on each individual’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development as part of a caring, connected community. The work of our educators is guided by the time-tested methods of Dr. Maria Montessori, whose inspiring words still ring true.
“Play is the work of the child.”— Dr. Maria Montessori
Children of all ages participate in play regularly as part of their educational experience at our school. Creativity blossoms when students engage in imaginative play. Collaboration grows organically among peers as they negotiate the rules of a game or problem-solve the construction of an outdoor stick-built structure. Plans are underway to expand and update our Toddler playground space, just one of many projects being undertaken by WHS to enhance our students’ opportunities to engage in meaningful play, both indoors and outdoors.
“When children come into contact with nature, they reveal their strength.”
— Dr. Maria Montessori
The beauty of nature is easily seen and experienced here at our school; every indoor space features large windows through which to view the world and doors providing passage to the grounds. Our robust Nature Education program across all grade levels engages students with our organic greenhouse and vegetable gardens, fruit trees, outdoor classrooms, nature trails, and pollinator gardens. Planning, creating, and caring for the gardens and orchards encourages responsibility and nurtures each child’s innate curiosity about the natural world and their place in it.
“In every child is the seed that will mature into an adult.” — Dr. Maria Montessori
Students in all levels are encouraged to pursue their interests through hands-on, project-based learning and independent research opportunities. Challenging academics, strong visual and performing arts programs, and an award-winning robotics program all contribute to “growing” students who blossom into the unique, confident, successful people they each have the potential to become. Our High School prepares students well for life beyond our campus, whether a student’s path leads to college, the world of work, or exploring the globe.
Just as each one of our individual students is a vital part of our school community, so are each of you critical to the continued success, stability, and growth of Welsh Hills School. Every contribution to our Welsh Hills School Fund makes a difference in the lives of our students. Your investment in our school has an impact every day, in all of our classrooms, in every corner of our eleven-acre campus, and for every student, faculty, and staff member. Be a part of today at WHS and help secure tomorrow by making your investment!
